American online games competition website WorldWinner.com has agreed a deal with leading children's and family leisure time products and services provider Hasbro Incorporated to launch Monopoly Downtown.

WorldWinner.com is a subsidiary of Game Show Network, the American cable television and direct broadcast satellite channel, and revealed that Monopoly Downtown is a new twist on the classic Hasbro board game offering players the chance to compete for cash and prizes.

'Monopoly was born during the Great Depression when its unemployed creator inspired millions with the thrill of fame and fortune,' said Peter Blacklow, President for WorldWinner.com and Executive Vice-President for Game Show Network Digital.

'Now, through our alliance with Hasbro, the game is taking root in a new medium and turning fantasy fortunes into reality. Monopoly Downtown gives game lovers everywhere a chance to compete for real cash and prizes and experience the small victories that come from winning competitions, even in tough times.'

Monopoly Downtown will be the second Hasbro game to be released on WorldWinner.com following the success of Scrabble Cubes, an online adaptation of the classic crossword game. As part of its agreement with Hasbro, WorldWinner.com stated that it would also soon deliver cash versions of Trivial Pursuit, Clue, Twister and Battleship to its portfolio of competitive casual games.

'With more than 250 million games sold to date, Monopoly has inspired millions of enterprising hopefuls building board game empires,” said Jim Acton, Director Of Licensing Gaming And Lottery for Hasbro.

“It's given game lovers endless hours of entertainment, competition and fun. Monopoly fans are already accustomed to competing for play money so it's only natural that they'll embrace the opportunity to try to beat their opponents for real cash prizes.'
