In the UK, bookmaker William Hill has hired headhunters Amos and Bailey to search for a new person to take charge of its online operation, which is due to be relaunched in November.

According to a piece in The Times newspaper, William Hill’s online sportsbetting business has lost ground to rivals such as Ladbrokes and Coral, forcing it to create a new role for someone to head the entire Internet side.

The newspaper reported that the ultimate appointee could eventually succeed Ralph Topping, who became Group Chief Executive in February.

About 20 percent of the firm’s total revenues are derived from its online business but Topping told a recent City presentation that he hoped to increase this to around 30 percent following the relaunch. In time, he stated, its Internet division could account for up to half of all turnover.
